They are sweet, tasty, and seriously easy to make. You can prepare, cook, and eat them in the same dish. Perfect, right?!!
Every little step is made right in one mug or ramekin. That’s why it’s called a mug cake – one mug for one cake. So, there is virtually no cleanup. Plus, with only a few ingredients, it seriously couldn’t get easier.
Whether it’s the middle of the night or at the end of a long day, Chocolate Chip Banana Mug Cake can be ready in only 5 minutes. One bowl, five minutes, and one perfectly made cake – that sounds like quick and delicious math to me.

Chocolate Chip Banana Mug Cake is also a healthier cake. Unlike other banana chocolate chip cakes, this cake is made without butter, cream, oil, or eggs. Instead, it is given its rich texture from a combination of banana and low-fat sour cream. But don’t be fooled by its healthy ingredients, this is one amazing cake.
You can make it with or without the ice cream on top. My kids love it with ice cream, extra chocolate chips, and a raspberry on top (instead of a cherry). The hot and cold combination is just so tasty. But it still tastes amazing on its own, without the ice cream.

How to Make Chocolate Chip Banana Mug Cake
It’s chocolate and banana time! Find your favorite mug or ramekin. It is about to be filled with a sweet, yummy cake.
Before you start adding all of your ingredients, you’ll want to mash up your banana. You’ll only need about half of a banana for this recipe. So, you can save the other half. Mash up the banana until there are virtually no chunks. Then you can measure the banana and mix in more of the ingredients.
Add flour, sugar, banana, sour cream, baking powder, and vanilla. Stir it all together before adding in the chocolate chips. Mix it together to form the tasty batter. Since it’s made without egg, you can lick the spoon or fork clean. I always do!
Now all that’s left is popping it in the microwave to bake. In less than 2 minutes, your tasty cake will be ready. If you are cooking your cake in a smaller ramekin, like in the pictures, I recommend placing a piece of paper towel underneath your cake. If any of your delicious cake cooks over the side, the paper towel is there to catch it. Trust me, this makes clean up so much easier.
Since all microwaves are different, start by cooking it on high for 1 minute. Continue to cook for 10 seconds at a time until it is ready. You’ll know it’s finished when the top appears firm and a toothpick comes out clean.
Finally, it’s the best step. So, eat and enjoy!!
