STEP 1 – DOWNLOAD PHOTOSHOP
To customize the template, you’ll need to use Photoshop on a computer. The image is designed using Photoshop and you will need to use it to add your own words to the template. If you don’t have Photoshop, you can download a free trial version. Click Here to download Photoshop.
If you have any issues installing, you can visit Photoshop’s troubleshoot download and installation issues.
The trial version lasts for 7 days. We recommend that you finish your gift and have it saved as a JPG before your trial ends.
STEP 2 – DOWNLOAD THE TEMPLATE
You will receive an email with the subject line Your This Happy Mommy order is now complete. In that email, you will see two links under the heading Download. One is a pdf and the other is a zipped file. Inside the zipped file, you will find a Photoshop (psd) file for the template that you ordered. You will also find the fonts that are used to create the image.
STEP 3 – UNZIP THE TEMPLATE FOLDER
The folder that you need to unzip will have the name of the template you purchased with a “.zip” at the end. So, let’s unzip it!
If you have a Mac computer:
- Find the file that you want to unzip.
- Double-click on the zipped file. It will open itself and an unzipped folder will appear beside the zipped one.
If you have a Windows computer:
- Find the file that you want to unzip.
- Press and hold (or right-click) the folder, select “Extract All,” and then follow the instructions.
Inside the zipped folder, you will find the Photoshop template. It will always end with “.psd”. The other files are the fonts.
STEP 4 – INSTALL THE FONTS
To see the right fonts in Photoshop, you need to install the fonts on your computer. All of the fonts are available for free online. They are simply included because they are the fonts used to create the template. If your computer doesn’t have the right fonts, the gift may look different than the sample online. So, let’s install the fonts!
If you have a Mac computer:
- Double-click on the font file.
- It will open in the font previewer. Click “Install Font.” It will open in the Font Book.
If you have a Windows computer:
- Right-click on the font file, and click “Install”.
- If you are prompted to allow the program to make changes, click “Yes”.
STEP 5 – ADD YOUR OWN WORDS TO THE TEMPLATE
Photoshop has many different tools that you can use. To use this template, there are a couple of tools that you will want to become familiar with.
The Layer Tool
Each of the different parts of the template, the text, the title, the background, and even the big heart, are all different layers. Each layer is modified individually.
You can find layers on the bottom right-hand corner of your Photoshop screen. The selected layer is highlighted in grey. To edit any part of your image, you’ll need to select that specific layer.
The Text Tool
The Text tool lets you change the text in the template and add your own words. You’ll find the text tool in the toolbar on the left. It looks like a “T” icon. Once you click on it, you can add your own words to the template.
If your text is longer or shorter than the sample text, you may need to adjust the font size. You can do that after clicking the text tool and changing that font size at the top of the screen.
STEP 6 – SAVE AND PRINT YOUR IMAGE
When you are happy with your gift, you’ll want to save it as a psd (Photoshop editable format) and as a jpg. In jpg format, you can print your gift at a photo centre.
QUESTIONS & ANSWERS:
Can I download this on my smartphone or tablet?
No, you need to use Photoshop on a computer to edit the text in the template. While there is a Photoshop application for phones, it is not the same as the one for a computer. You will need to use a computer to edit the text in the template.
Why am I seeing little “b” in the text and not hearts?
The font Love Romance turns the little “b” into a heart. When you have correctly installed the font on your computer, the “b” will become a heart.
When adding my text, there are extra spaces around some words, how do I fix this?
Your text will have more or less characters than the sample text. This can affect the spacing. You can adjust the spacing by using your keyboard. Try using the spacebar, delete button, or the return/enter button.
