For someone so small, babies have a lot of stuff. In the first few days with my daughter, I couldn’t get over how much stuff one little person could have.
“Do we really need that?” I’d ask myself. The truth was, some things we did and other things we really didn’t.
In no particular order, here’s a list of my top five favourite new baby items. These are the things you really want to get. They will not only help make your life easier, some will actually last beyond the baby phase. Who doesn’t love a baby item with a little longevity?

Fisher-Price Bathtub
I can’t say enough good things about this tub. It’s made for newborns, babies, and toddlers. We’ve been using it since my daughter’s first bath at home and we are still using it at almost 2 years old.
Bathing a tiny, slippery newborn is challenging. This bath has a removable mesh insert, which gently cradles your baby in the water, letting you use both hands to clean your child. When your child outgrows the insert, there is a “baby-stopper.” Like the name suggests, it helps hold your baby in place. For a toddler, there is still a lot of room in the bath to sit up and play. There are even two bath toys included.
This bathtub is really easy to clean. It even has a hook, so you can hang it to dry. Here’s a link to the Fischer-Price Bathtub.
Booby Trapper
Being a breastfeeding mama, I love the booby trapper. Its double rimmed design helps you keep an eye on your baby during feedings. And its lightweight fabric helps keep mama and baby cool. Whether it was a hot summers day or we were on the beach in Mexico, I never felt too hot using the Booby Trapper.
The Booby Trapper is large enough to cover mommy and baby, even when the baby gets squirmy. But it can still fold up small enough to comfortably fit into diaper bags/purses.
The Booby Trapper lived in my purse for a long, long time. I never went anywhere without it and I was always happy to have it with me. Here’s a link to the Booby Trapper.
Fisher-Price My Little Snugabunny Cradle N Swing
For the longest time, I lovingly referred to My Little Sunagabunny Cradle N Swing as the “third parent.” Since it plugs into the wall, it never tired or slowed down. It was always able to rock my little girl to sleep, whether it was nap time, bedtime, or middle of the night post-feeding time.

Since it was placed in our bedroom, right in front of our bed, I could lie down and rest, watching my daughter drift off to sleepy land. When she was finally asleep, I’d carefully move her into her bassinet. This swing was a real blessing, especially for sleep deprived parents.
Not only did my daughter love the soothing, swinging motion of the swing, she also enjoyed the mellow music and the colourful bird mobile with a mirror in the centre. Here’s the link to the Fisher-Price My Little Snugabunny Cradle N Swing.
Enflo Triple Fun Exersaucer
I love, love, love this exersaucer. This is the one and only toy my daughter has used since day one and she still plays with it today, at almost 2 years old. At first, she enjoyed it as a play mat, swatting at and reaching for the toys. Once she was around 4 or 5 months old, she started sitting in the exersaucer, where she could finally play with all of the toys.
The Triple Fun Exersaucer was the first toy my daughter learned to manipulate on her own. She would press the button on the globe, smile with pride, and bop to the music. It was amazing seeing how much she loved playing with each toy. And she could easily swivel around to each one of them.
We still play with the exersaucer in its “S” form, which gives my daughter more room to play and dance with the music. Here’s a link to the Enflo Triple Fun Exersaucer.
My Brest Friend, Breastfeeding Pillow
Breastfeeding can be challenging, especially in the beginning. There’s a lot to think about and a lot to learn. The My Brest Friend, Breastfeeding Pillow really helps make feedings easier.
In the early stages, when you are worried about latching and positioning, this pillow truly helps. Your baby is supported the whole time, giving you the opportunity to make sure that everything is comfortable and working well.
Several moms recommended this pillow to me when I was pregnant. I am so happy I listened to them. I love that this pillow is sturdy and adjustable, fitting me right after childbirth and even after the baby weight was gone. Some additional key features include back support and a velcro pocket in the front, convenient for keeping clean tissues at hand. Here’s the link to the My Brest Friend, Breastfeeding Pillow.
